My Name is Quill as in Wild Life: This is My Big Adventure

Meeting Erik

I was hunting with my owner when I saw a rabbit. I instinctively chased it until it ran down a hole, I barked and dug until I could dig no more. When I looked at the sky it was dark. I barked and went searching for my owner, all I found was this interesting looking creature. I sniffed it, but I guess it did not like being sniffed so it poked me with some spikes. I whimpered it pain, I barked for my owner to come and helped me, but no one answered my call. I ran like there was something chasing me, I ran until the sun came up and I was on a road. In the the distance I saw a barn, so I ran to it being sneaking so no one would see me. I entered the barn and lied down. I thought I was very sneaking and that no one saw me, but I was wrong. A interesting smelling boy entered the barn. As soon as I smelled him, I knew he was not from around here. He walked closer to me, he called my out of the dark. I was frightened, but obeyed the boy. He was very friendly to me and I instantly became happy to know that someone could help me. I knew this boy would be a best friend that I won’t ever forget. The boy talked to me, I think he said his name was Erik, yeah, the boy’s name is Erik.

Meeting Big Darrell

Erik was very kind to me and I knew he wanted to be my friend. He called a vet to help me the hurtful spikes in my face. The vet was nice too, just like Erik. I was so grateful once the spikes were out of my face and I vowed that I wouldn’t go near another one of those things again. Erik took me inside to spend the night until my owner came for me. The lady Erik called Oma, was very friendly, she feed my the greatest meat in the entire world, I think anyway. I thought the night would be filled with fun, and laughter, and it was until a grumpy old man came home. Oma called him Big Darrell, I could see why, Big Darrell had to be a giant. He was way taller than my owner. I walked up to him, looking happy and trying to be friendly, but I really was scared. He only yelled at me and told me to get away from him. I obeyed and jogged back to the side of Erik. He made me terrified, but it left when Erik knelt down and patted my on the head. Maybe, Big Darrell isn’t a dog person.

Going on an Adventure

I was forced to sleep out in the barn, but Erik wouldn’t let me do that alone, so he came with me. I truly admire the love he has for me, even if he just met me a day ago. I never knew humans could do that, I thought only dogs have that love. Apparently, I was wrong. Erik played fetch with me all day until the phone rang. Erik answer and I heard the vet talking about how my owner would be coming for me tomorrow. Erik was about to cry, I could tell, but didn’t until he hung up with the vet. Erik told me that he wouldn’t let my owner take me, so we had to leave. He told me his plan as we walked around the house looking for stuff we needed to take with us. Once Erik was sure we were set we were on our way. It was exciting to be hunting again. After a little bit, I went on point, waiting for Erik to do something. Erik was laughing and not looking for the pheasants. When they flew up Erik knew what he did wrong and he never made that mistake again. I was hungry at night, I didn’t care I was having so much fun. Well someone found us and took away Erik’s gun, I knew something was wrong. Erik started to run, so I dashed after him. We got away, but we had no way of getting food.

Leaving Eric

I was very exhausted from our long walk home, but I was happy that I was with Eric the whole time. I truly love Eric just like I know he loves me. I went on an amazing adventure with Eric and I knew that if I stayed with him we would have many more adventures to come. The only problem was that my owner would not let that happen. I was hoping, probably just like Eric, that my owner wouldn’t come, but as soon I heard the familiar sound of his car, my heart sank. I knew that I would never see Eric again, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t think of him. Eric was an awesome friend to me and I would never forget him. I will always think of him on my hunts will my owner. As soon as my owner pulled up in the driveway, Eric became sadder, as did I, but, as soon as my owner called my name, I knew I had to run to him and give and big kiss. Right after the kiss, I began feeling sad again, knowing I would leave Eric with a broken heart just made me gloomy. Some people think that dogs forget things and that we don’t feel sad when we leave someone we love. Well, this people are wrong.

  6. Quill and Eric,
I really love to see you guys get along very well. I've seen many situations where a person and dog get along very well. It's nice to see that there are still people out there that care about dogs. I never had a dog before and I desire to have one soon. I don't know how it feels to have a healthy relationship with a dog, but I'd really like to own one. Quill seems to observe many people and that's very interesting in my perspective. Maybe Quill's owner could give a chance to Eric to be with Quill for awhile.
