America's Premier Gunmakers: Winchester: Week of 1/27/14

Pages Read: Finished

The author has done many things to make his readers keep on reading. For one, the most important thing he did, was adding pictures of each type of gun that he talked about. This made me want to keep reading because it is entertaining to see how many different designs Winchester was made. Also it helped me visualize how Winchester made changes to improve his guns. Another thing that the author did to make me want to keep reading was telling what the pictures were. This not only made me want to keep reading, but also it helped me, again, to visualize each gun and know about each one.

The author is K.D Kirkland. I know that Kirkland is interested in the history of guns because he wrote four different books of four different gunmakers. I have never seen a picture of him, but I think he has a beard and brown hair. I think he is a nice guy in his mid-40s. I think he would be a polite and fancy. I don't know why I think any of this, but I think I think this because his name sounds like how I'm describing him.

By: The Beatles

I would include this song because the Sun is like the guns. People only really bought guns right before the winter. It is like the Sun going away in the Winter, but returning in the spring. The guns came back for the winter and left for the summer.

By: Kansas

I would include this song because this is the theme song for the show Supernatural. The main characters have the last name of Winchester, so it reminds me of the gunmaker.

I would include this song because the Winchester Repeater was a major part of old western movies and shows. Rawhide is a great example of an old western show.

By: Mozart

I would include this song because it is a very unique and epic peice of music. It relates to the process of making and improving the guns Winchester made.

Come Home
By: One Republic

I would include this song because Winchester made a bunch of guns for many wars, so they could come back home and the war would be over.

America's Premier Gunmakers: Winchester: Week of 1/20/14

Pages Read: 74 - 112

I'm learning so much about the making of guns and the making of smokeless powder. Humans advanced very much with the process of gun making. Winchester found many new types safe gunpowder and created many guns, it really is amazing how the human race progressed through time. We gone from making bullets by hand to making thousands even millions of bullets in a day. Winchester and many other gunmakers have made and found many safe ways to create gun ammunition.

While I read America's Premier Gunmakers: Winchester, I picture in my mind, the Winchester Repeater. It is one of the most famous guns made by Winchester. The Winchester Repeater is still used today. It is usually one of the guns in a video game, it can never be just some ordinary rifle, it has to be the Winchester Repeater. The Winchester Repeater is also a fantastic hunting gun. It has great accuracy and power. This gun popped into my because I know some of the Winchester guns, but this one, this one has to be my favorite. The way in looks, it's just marvelous.

America's Premier Gunmakers: Winchester: Week of 1-13-14

Pages Read: 42 - 112

So far, I really love this books. I find the making of guns so interesting. This is a very detailed book and I love very bit of it. It is only one of four in the series and I plan on reading every one of them. I think out of all four of them I will love the one on Samuel Colt the most. I plan on reading that on next. I enjoy reading the Winchester one though. I find it interesting that black power was a dangerous and uncontrollable substance and that within only a couple of years people found a new substance that was safe and controllable.

Winchester has many things to motivated him to start making guns. The most important thing that motivated him was money. Creating guns and new ammunition that was new and improved made you very rich. Back then, practically every owned a gun, they needed it to protect their family, protect their land, and even get there food. Guns were every thing back then so making gave you a bunch of money.

I choose to read this book for many reasons. The main reason is because I have a interest in guns. I always did, just knowing the fact that something can be shot out of a narrow space by powder just always interested me. The second reason I choose to read this book was because I never really knew how guns were made until I started reading this book. The third and final reason I choose to read this book was because of Supernatural. The main characters in supernatural have the last name of Winchester and that is three of the reasons I choose to read this book.

My Name is Quill as in Wild Life: This is My Big Adventure

Meeting Erik

I was hunting with my owner when I saw a rabbit. I instinctively chased it until it ran down a hole, I barked and dug until I could dig no more. When I looked at the sky it was dark. I barked and went searching for my owner, all I found was this interesting looking creature. I sniffed it, but I guess it did not like being sniffed so it poked me with some spikes. I whimpered it pain, I barked for my owner to come and helped me, but no one answered my call. I ran like there was something chasing me, I ran until the sun came up and I was on a road. In the the distance I saw a barn, so I ran to it being sneaking so no one would see me. I entered the barn and lied down. I thought I was very sneaking and that no one saw me, but I was wrong. A interesting smelling boy entered the barn. As soon as I smelled him, I knew he was not from around here. He walked closer to me, he called my out of the dark. I was frightened, but obeyed the boy. He was very friendly to me and I instantly became happy to know that someone could help me. I knew this boy would be a best friend that I won’t ever forget. The boy talked to me, I think he said his name was Erik, yeah, the boy’s name is Erik.

Meeting Big Darrell

Erik was very kind to me and I knew he wanted to be my friend. He called a vet to help me the hurtful spikes in my face. The vet was nice too, just like Erik. I was so grateful once the spikes were out of my face and I vowed that I wouldn’t go near another one of those things again. Erik took me inside to spend the night until my owner came for me. The lady Erik called Oma, was very friendly, she feed my the greatest meat in the entire world, I think anyway. I thought the night would be filled with fun, and laughter, and it was until a grumpy old man came home. Oma called him Big Darrell, I could see why, Big Darrell had to be a giant. He was way taller than my owner. I walked up to him, looking happy and trying to be friendly, but I really was scared. He only yelled at me and told me to get away from him. I obeyed and jogged back to the side of Erik. He made me terrified, but it left when Erik knelt down and patted my on the head. Maybe, Big Darrell isn’t a dog person.

Going on an Adventure

I was forced to sleep out in the barn, but Erik wouldn’t let me do that alone, so he came with me. I truly admire the love he has for me, even if he just met me a day ago. I never knew humans could do that, I thought only dogs have that love. Apparently, I was wrong. Erik played fetch with me all day until the phone rang. Erik answer and I heard the vet talking about how my owner would be coming for me tomorrow. Erik was about to cry, I could tell, but didn’t until he hung up with the vet. Erik told me that he wouldn’t let my owner take me, so we had to leave. He told me his plan as we walked around the house looking for stuff we needed to take with us. Once Erik was sure we were set we were on our way. It was exciting to be hunting again. After a little bit, I went on point, waiting for Erik to do something. Erik was laughing and not looking for the pheasants. When they flew up Erik knew what he did wrong and he never made that mistake again. I was hungry at night, I didn’t care I was having so much fun. Well someone found us and took away Erik’s gun, I knew something was wrong. Erik started to run, so I dashed after him. We got away, but we had no way of getting food.

Leaving Eric

I was very exhausted from our long walk home, but I was happy that I was with Eric the whole time. I truly love Eric just like I know he loves me. I went on an amazing adventure with Eric and I knew that if I stayed with him we would have many more adventures to come. The only problem was that my owner would not let that happen. I was hoping, probably just like Eric, that my owner wouldn’t come, but as soon I heard the familiar sound of his car, my heart sank. I knew that I would never see Eric again, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t think of him. Eric was an awesome friend to me and I would never forget him. I will always think of him on my hunts will my owner. As soon as my owner pulled up in the driveway, Eric became sadder, as did I, but, as soon as my owner called my name, I knew I had to run to him and give and big kiss. Right after the kiss, I began feeling sad again, knowing I would leave Eric with a broken heart just made me gloomy. Some people think that dogs forget things and that we don’t feel sad when we leave someone we love. Well, this people are wrong.
